NEW YORK, March 19 (UPI) -- Singer Pharrell Williams will be honored by the Council of Fashion Designers of America with its Fashion Icon Award this summer.

The singer and producer will receive the honor on June 1 at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall, during the 2015 CFDA Fashion Awards.

"If cool was a person, it would be Pharrell, not just for his looks and sense of style, but for his kindness and openness," said CFDA President Diane von Furstenburg in a statement. "I cannot imagine anyone not seduced by him."

The Fashion Icon Award is given to "an individual whose style has made a significant impact on popular culture on an international stage," the CFDA wrote on its website. Williams' penchant for hats and bermuda tuxedos are examples of his signature style.

While accepting last year's CFDA Fashion Icon Award, Barbarian singer Rihanna attended the ceremony in a completely see-through dress.
