NEW YORK, Feb. 19 (UPI) -- Girls star Allison Williams assured viewers on Wednesday that her dad, disgraced news anchor Brian Williams is a trustworthy man.

The actress, 26, defended her father, who was suspended from NBC's Nightly News after he recanted a story that his helicopter was hit when he was in Iraq in 2003, claiming he is "an honest man, a truthful man," during a Q&A with Seth Meyers at 92Y about her acting career.

Allison Williams disclosed that she, her mother and brother are standing behind her father following his revelation, partly because he's always been there for them, and partly because "[she knows] you can trust him."

"One thing this experience has not done is shake my trust and belief in him as a man. He's a really good man, an honest man, a truthful man -- he has so much integrity and so much respect for journalism. And yes he's a really good dad. I know you can trust him because, as any good daughter does, I've tested him on that."

The actress, who reportedly made the marks "looking down at the stage" and speaking "with a subdued tone" -- even shared her own story from the time Brian Williams was in Iraq in 2003. He was supposed to come back in time to attend a school dance with her, but could't make it in the end.

"I was so upset and I got a surprise call from my dad from Iraq, and he was asking if I had a date to the dance," she recounted. "So that's the kind of man he is. I can't wait until he's back on TV and I know many of you guys feel that way. Thank you for all your support."
