LOS ANGELES, Nov. 12 (UPI) -- The lost love letters between Hollywood starlet Marilyn Monroe and her lovers and friends are being put up for auction in Beverly Hills. A collection of 300 items including lingerie, letters and photographs will hit the auction block at Julien's Auction in Beverly Hills in December. "The Lost Archive of Marilyn Monroe" includes letters from her husband, baseball star Joe DiMaggio, after Monroe announced her intent to divorce him in 1954.

"I love you and want to be with you," said DiMaggio in one letter, begging her to stay with him. "There is nothing I would like better than to restore your confidence in me."
DiMaggio was seen crying at her funeral.
In a response to a letter from her final husband Arthur Miller, Monroe dismissed his claims of her nobility in the handling of her traumatic childhood and public scrutiny.
"In other words, there was no choice to make, the same road was always before me," she wrote. "So for you to speak of my nobility, it really wasn't so noble ... It's doubly difficult to understand that you, the most different, most beautiful human being, chose me to love."
The letters were not only from her lovers. Some were from her friends including Clark Gable, Cary Grant and Jane Russell. In a 10-page letter, her Gentlemen Prefer Blondes co-star Russell implored Monroe to try to repair her marriage to DiMaggio.
Monroe died in 1962 at the age of 36 from a drug overdose.
The items will be up for auction Dec. 5 and 6 and are expected to bring in more than $1 million.
