Neil Patrick Harris, David Burtka secretly wed in Italy

PORTLAND, Ore., Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka are married.

The 41-year-old How I Met Your Mother star and his longtime partner secretly wed in Italy over the weekend. Both grooms wore custom Tom Ford tuxedos, and HIMYM producer and director Pam Fryman officiated the ceremony. Singer Elton John was on hand to perform at the reception.

"We happily confirm that Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka were married in Italy in an intimate ceremony surrounded by their close friends and family," the actor's rep said in a statement.

"Guess what? @DavidBurtka and I got married over the weekend," Harris announced Monday on Twitter. "In Italy. Yup, we put the 'n' and 'd' in 'husband.'"

Harris and Burtka have been together for over 10 years, and got engaged in 2006. The couple are parents to twins Gideon and Harper, who turn 4 years old on October 15. Harris will next appear alongside Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike in an adaptation of Dennis Lehane's novel Gone Girl.
