LONDON, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Amy Winehouse will be honored with a statue in London.

The life-size bronze sculpture will stand in the center of Camden Stables market. Winehouse's last home was near the market, and the singer was often spotted in the area.

"I had a meeting with Camden council and they told me they don't usually allow statues until 20 years after someone has died, but in Amy's case they made an exception," father Mitch Winehouse said in a statement.

"It's a great honor to have the statue in the Stables," he continued. "Amy was an integral part of Camden and still is, so you couldn't really think of putting a statue for her anywhere else, could you really?"

The statue will be unveiled September 14, which would have been Winehouse's 31st birthday. The singer died of accidental alcohol poisoning at age 27, and was discovered in her home July 23, 2011.

"We want to try and get people away from Camden Square where Amy's house was because although it's a lovely house and she loved it there, it's got bad memories for everyone including her fans," Mitch Winehouse shared. "By taking the focal point back to the Stables it will create a better atmosphere and people will be able to remember Amy how she was. It's going to be a magnificent sculpture and we want it to be something positive to remember her by."
