LOS ANGELES, April 8 (UPI) -- Parks and Recreation actor Chris Pratt stars in a new clip from his upcoming movie, Guardians of the Galaxy.

MTV premiered the footage as part of their week-long "takeover" in anticipation of the 2014 MTV Movie Awards on Sunday, April 13. The new clip features Pratt as the character Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, who acts as leader to the Guardians.

The preview highlights the movie's mix of action and comedy as Quill attempts to pull an Infinity Stone from its pedestal in a cavern. The villain Korath (Djimon Hounsou) interrupts him as he takes the orb, but Quill is able to escape with the help of his rocket-booster boots.

Guardians of the Galaxy is based on the Marvel comic of the same name, and features four other superheroes in addition to Quill. Gamora (Zoe Saldana) is a green-skinned woman with superhuman strength and accelerated healing abilities, Dax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista) is a powerful warrior who seeks revenge, and Groot (Vin Diesel) is a tree-like creature and sidekick to Rocket (Bradley Cooper), a genetically-engineered raccoon marksman.

The new movie is directed by James Gunn, and also stars Lee Pace as main antagonist Ronan the Accuser. Guardians of the Galaxy will debut in theaters on August 1.
