March 14 (UPI) -- Billy Joel reiterated his distaste for hit song "We Didn't Start the Fire" after he forgot the lyrics during a recent concert in Canada.

Joel has expressed his dislike for the song on more than one occasion, and began his encore with the tune in Toronto against his better judgement.

"Wait a minute," the singer said as he stopped his performance. "That ain't right. All you gotta do is [expletive] up one word in that song and it's a train wreck."

Joel attempted to skip to the next song in his set, but the audience insisted that he finish. "It's the same thing verse after verse," the singer complained in response. "Just the words change. It's one of the worst melodies I ever wrote."

Joel finished the song per audience request, and good-naturedly acknowledged that the slip would not escape notice in the digital age. "That'll be all over Youtube tomorrow," he said. "It's okay. It was an authentic rock and roll [expletive] up. We're not on tape. You don't see much of that anymore."

"Okay, let's hope we get through this one," the singer joked before he started up his next song.

The performance was part of Joel's successful comeback tour. The singer will perform at Madison Square Garden every month until further notice, and will also visit select U.S. cities in the near future.
