LOS ANGELES, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Saying his "joy is indescribable," Rod Stewart became a grandfather for the first time when his daughter Kimberly gave birth to a girl in Los Angeles.
The baby arrived Sunday, which also was the 32nd birthday of her mother, Kimberly, People.com reported.
Father Benicio del Toro, 44, was present at the evening birth along with Rod Stewart, the 66-year-old rocker's wife Penny Lancaster, and Kimberly's mother, one of Rod's ex-wives, Alana Collins.
Although del Toro and Kimberly Stewart are no longer a couple, he has promised to play an active role in his daughter's life, US Magazine reported a source close to the actor has said.
They haven't yet picked a name for the child who weighed 8 pounds 10 ounces and was 22 inches at birth.
Rod Stewart welcomed his eighth child in February when Lancaster had son Aiden.
