VANCOUVER, Wash., July 3 (UPI) -- Tonya Harding, who became the world's most notorious skater after her rival, Nancy Kerrigan, was attacked, married quietly in Washington state, officials say.
Harding, 39, and Joseph Jens Price, 42, both of Yacolt, Wash., obtained a marriage license last week in Clark County, The Columbian of Vancouver, Wash., reported. They filed the certificate Tuesday, showing the wedding was held at the Community Church of God and the marriage is now valid.
Karen Updike, a deputy auditor who handled the paperwork, told the newspaper they were a "very nice couple." She called Price a "real nice, blue collar-type guy."
Harding, who came from a hardscrabble background in Portland, Ore., won the 1994 U.S. National Championship in figure skating after Kerrigan was injured by an assailant during a practice session. She managed to stay on the Olympic team but finished eight places out while Kerrigan won the silver medal.
Her ex-husband, Jeff Gillooly, admitted to the attack, while Harding herself pleaded guilty to related charges in 1996 and was banned for life from skating and stripped of her title.
Harding made attempts to cash in on her notoriety, including acting and singing. She had a brief career as a professional boxer from 2002 to 2004.
