Chris Brown's sentencing delayed

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 6 (UPI) -- A Los Angeles judge delayed sentencing for singer Chris Brown, saying she wants a guarantee he'll perform community labor for hitting his ex-girlfriend Rihanna.

Judge Patricia Schnegg told the R&B singer of "Forever" and "Kiss Kiss" she wanted to ensure he performed 1,400 hours of "community labor" for striking the singer, the New York Daily News reported Thursday

Brown pleaded guilty in June to a felony assault charge for hitting Rihanna. He received no jail time but was ordered to serve 180 days of community labor, such as road cleanup, in Virginia where he lives.

"I do not favor community service," Schnegg said during Wednesday's hearing, explaining that she wants Brown, 20, picking up trash or cleaning up graffiti.

Schnegg delayed Brown's sentencing to Aug. 27 because she hasn't received documents from Virginia officials detailing the type of community labor he'll be assigned, the Daily News said.

Schnegg did not address an order of protection barring Brown from coming within 50 yards of Rihanna, which the singer's attorney, Donald Etra, sought to have revoked.

Besides community labor, Brown's plea included five years of probation and 52 weeks of domestic violence counseling.
