LONDON, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Comic Russell Brand dedicated his British Comedy Award for best live stand-up to Jonathan Ross, his cohort in a controversial BBC radio stunt.
Brand and Ross have been in hot water over on-air prank calls placed to actor Andrew Sachs on Brand's popular show on Radio 2.
The BBC reported Sunday that Brand, who resigned from the network due to the flap, paid homage to Ross, who was sitting out a 12-week suspension.
"There are no comedy awards without Jonathan Ross, he is the king-maker," Brand told the audience.
Other comedy awards handed out Saturday night at the London Television Studio went to Ricky Gervais for Best Television Comedy Actor in "Extras Christmas Special," Sharon Horgan of "Pulling" for Best Comedy Entertainment Actress and TV host Alan Carr for Best Comedy Entertainment Personality.
