LOS ANGELES, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- Actor Mark Ruffalo's hairstylist brother is clinging to life after suffering a gunshot wound to the head in California, "Entertainment Tonight" reported.

The entertainment news program said Wednesday on its Web site that Ruffalo's brother Scott was discovered with the head wound this week and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the injury is being conducted.

Sources told the New York Post the 39-year-old hairstylist was shot in the back of his head and has been in intensive care since he was found in Beverly Hills, Calif., early Monday.

Mark Ruffalo's publicist Jessica Kolstad told the Post the 41-year-old actor is by his brother's side at a Los Angeles-area hospital.

People magazine said Scott Ruffalo was shot at his condo in Beverly Hills and is listed in serious condition.

The magazine said he is married to Luzelena Ruffalo has a step-daughter named Lucinda.

Mark Ruffalo's film credits include "Reservation Road," "You Can Count on Me," "Zodiac," "13 Going on 30" and "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind."
