PARIS, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Guillaume Depardieu, the 37-year-old son of French film star Gerard Depardieu, has died from complications related to pneumonia, hospital officials said.

The BBC said the younger Depardieu, who was also an actor with dozens of film and TV credits on his resume, flew to France Sunday from Romania where he contracted a pulmonary illness while working.

He died at Raymond-Poincare hospital near Paris.

Father and son co-starred in the 1991 film "Tous les Matins du Monde (All the Mornings of the World,)" which marked Guillaume Depardieu's big-screen debut.

Five years later, Depardieu won the award for most promising young actor at France's Cesar awards for his work in the film "Les Apprentis (The Apprentices.)"

The younger Depardieu, who battled drug and alcohol addiction as a teen and young adult, was also involved in a motorcycle accident in 1996. He eventually had his right leg amputated as a result of the crash.

Guillaume and Gerard Depardieu have been estranged since a public falling out in 2003, the BBC said.
