Winehouse's father, Mitch, said last month the singer was diagnosed as being in the early stages of emphysema after she was taken to the hospital for tests following a fainting spell at her London apartment. She has also battled an addiction to drugs.

The 24-year-old performer was admitted to University College Hospital in London Monday evening but a spokesman for the hospital told The Daily Telegraph she was discharged Tuesday after spending "a comfortable night" under observation.

The newspaper said Winehouse was taken out of her house in a wheelchair, wrapped in a blanket and given oxygen, then transported to the hospital by ambulance.

Winehouse's publicist, Chris Goodman, told The Telegraph the Grammy Award-winning singer had suffered a reaction to her medication.

Asked as he entered the hospital shortly before midnight how his daughter was doing, he held up a bag from Kentucky Fried Chicken and quipped, "This is how serious

Visitor falls into, smashes sculpture

LONDON, July 29 (UPI) -- A 9-foot-tall sculpture by Costa Rican artist Tatiana Echeverri Fernandez was destroyed when a visitor fell into it at a London exhibit.

The BBC said the totem titled "Christina" was broken into hundreds of pieces when a visitor fell into the cordoned-off piece, causing it to crash to the floor at the Royal Academy.

The sculpture, estimated to have been worth about $12,000, was one of five totems by the contemporary artist on display. The gallery closed after the weekend incident, but later reopened, the BBC said Tuesday.

"The Summer Exhibition 2008 had got through its busiest period and it is particularly disappointing that this has happened on a fairly quiet Saturday afternoon," the Royal Academy of Arts told the BBC. "(The Academy) is arranging for a conservator to come in to assess the damage so that we can inform our insurers."

Spears is nominated for MTV video award

LOS ANGELES, July 29 (UPI) -- U.S. pop singer Britney Spears's "Piece of Me" has been nominated for a 2008 MTV Video Music Award in the Best Female Video category.

Spears's career has been overshadowed in the last year or so by her erratic behavior and legal battle with her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, over custody of their two sons.

Spears appears to have been getting her act together since her father was named conservator of her affairs, following her treatment for psychiatric issues earlier this year.

She also reached a settlement with Federline last week regarding custody of their children.

Her video will compete with Mariah Carey's "Touch My Body," Katy Perry's "I Kissed A Girl," Rihanna's "Take A Bow" and Jordin Sparks's "No Air," MTV.com said.

Nominated in the Best Male Video category are Chris Brown's "With You," Flo Rida's "Low," Lil Wayne's "Lollipop," T.I.'s "No Matter What" and Usher's "Love In This Club."

The awards will be handed out Sept. 7.

REYKJAVIK, Iceland, July 29 (UPI) -- Scottish celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay admits he thought he was a "goner" when he fell off a cliff in Iceland while hunting puffins to cook on TV.

Ramsay was treated at his hotel for a leg gash he sustained during the incident on the Westman Islands. He later went to London's Cromwell Hospital where he received three stitches for a puffin bite he sustained on his nose, The Daily Telegraph reported Monday.

Ramsay reportedly slipped and fell into freezing water as he climbed down a 280-foot drop while filming footage for his show "The F Word."

"I thought I was a goner," he told the British newspaper. "I remember thinking: 'Oh, (expletive.) My boots and my waterproofs were dragging me down. I'm an extremely good swimmer, but I couldn't get to the surface. I was panicking and my lungs were filling with water. When I got to the top after getting my boots off I was dazed and my head was totally numb."

Ramsay's crew threw him a line and pulled him to safety when he failed to surface after about 45 seconds, the Telegraph said.

As for the puffin peck, Ramsay told the newspaper: "I keep saying one of my kids punched me. I'm too embarrassed to say it was a puffin."
