NEW YORK, July 8 (UPI) -- The Rev. Timothy Wright, a popular New York gospel singer, is conscious and "holding on" after a horrific car crash, his son David said.

David Wright told Newsday his father, who is pastor of Grace Tabernacle Christian Center Church of God in Christ in Brooklyn, N.Y., knows his 14-year-old grandson was killed in the accident but hasn't been told his wife and co-pastor, Betty Wright, died as well.

The Wrights were returning from a religious convention in Detroit last Friday when their car was hit head-on by a vehicle going the wrong way on Interstate 80 in Pennsylvania, police said.

Timothy Wright, who suffered numerous injuries, including a broken jaw, in the crash, was listed in critical condition Monday, Newsday said.

Although he has been indicating he wants to see his wife, his family agreed to keep the news of her death from him until he is physically stronger.

"He's holding on," David Wright told the newspaper. "He's conscious. He can't talk but he can nod his head."

'Jersey Boys' can't light up in Chicago

CHICAGO, July 8 (UPI) -- A complaint from a theatergoer sparked a smoking ban that means the cast of the Chicago production of "Jersey Boys" can't light up on stage.

The musical, which is also running on Broadway and in London, is about how several New Jersey guys became the iconic pop group the Four Seasons.

The Chicago Sun-Times said the cast is no longer allowed to smoke during the show, which is set primarily in the 1950s and 1960s, after a complaint from an irate theatergoer led to enforcement of the city's smoking ban during the live performance.

"When you take it out of the production, you're changing history. If you want to be true to the times, you'll allow them to smoke on stage," the newspaper quoted Alderman Bernard Stone as saying.

Former Alderman Burton F. Natarus told the Sun-Times that before he left office he fought to allow smoking during live performances.

"The Cancer Society and all of the non-smoking people prevailed," Natarus said. "It's too bad. People are being unrealistic. If they're smoking in a play, I don't think that's gonna cause anybody to die of cancer."

A spokesman for the Public Health Department told the newspaper the division doesn't "proactively go to theatrical productions to see if anyone is smoking on stage" and doesn't have any record of a complaint about "Jersey Boys."

Report: Kate Moss, Jamie Hince break up

LONDON, July 8 (UPI) -- Representatives for British model Kate Moss and her rock musician boyfriend Jamie Hince are declining to comment on rumors the couple has split up.

Moss has previously dated troubled rocker Pete Doherty and Hollywood actor Johnny Depp. Hince is the guitarist for The Kills.

The Sun quoted a source as saying: "Kate was expected to watch The Kills play in Kent that evening but she gave it a miss to watch the show 'High School Musical' instead.

Her friends virtually had to drag her there kicking and screaming as she was so upset.

Since then, Kate and Jamie haven't spoken. But he's telling friends that it's not a permanent split -- it's simply that he's in the doghouse."

People.com said Moss's and Hince's representatives offered no comment on the supposed break-up.
