'Heights,' 'Pacific' lead Tony field

NEW YORK, May 13 (UPI) -- The new Broadway musical "In the Heights" was nominated for a leading 13 Tony Award nominations in New York Tuesday.

Following close behind were the revival of "Rodgers & Hammerstein's South Pacific" with 11 Tony nods and "Sunday in the Park with George" with nine.

"August: Osage County," "Gypsy" and "Passing Strange" all earned seven nominations apiece.

Nominated for best play were "August: Osage County," "Rock 'n' Roll," "The Seafarer" and "The 39 Steps."

Up for the Tony for best musical are "Cry-Baby," "In the Heights," "Passing Strange" and "

Xanadu."

In the running for best revival of a play are "Boeing-Boeing," "The Homecoming," "Les Liaisons Dangereuses" and "Macbeth."

Competing for the award for best revival of a musical are "Grease," "Gypsy" and "Sunday in the Park with George."

"Boeing-Boeing," "Macbeth" and "The 39 Steps" each were nominated for six Tony Awards, while "Les Liaisons Dangereuses" is up for five prizes and "Cry-Baby," "Rock 'n' Roll," "The Seafarer" and "Xanadu" are all up for four apiece.
