Alex Trebek discharged from hospital

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 15 (UPI) -- U.S. game-show host Alex Trebek was discharged from a Los Angeles hospital Saturday less than a week after suffering what was described as a minor heart attack.

The 67-year-old host of "Jeopardy!" was recuperating Saturday at his home in Studio City, Calif., Sony Pictures Television said in a news release. Trebek posted a message to fans on "Jeopardy!" Web site message boards.

"I'm truly overwhelmed by the great show of support and compassion expressed in the past few days to me, my family and my co-workers," he said. "Even though I know 'Jeopardy!' is a very popular program, I was still surprised at the number of people who took time from their schedules to call or send a note of encouragement. I thank you all so very much."

Trebek said he is "on the mend" and plans to spend Christmas at home with his family. He said he would be back in the studio Jan. 14 to tape the show's Teen Tournament.

Shows set to air in the meantime were taped before Trebek's heart attack.

"Jeopardy!" has won 27 Emmy awards and is been the No. 1-rated quiz show in syndication for more than 1,000 weeks, Sony said.
