Travels helped Keys finish new album

WASHINGTON , Nov. 13 (UPI) -- A trip to Egypt and Italy helped American R&B singer-songwriter Alicia Keys get on track for her latest album.

Keys had been working on a group of songs she said "just wasn't coming out right at all." But after her travels, she said she "came back invigorated" and was able to get to work on the new "As I Am."

"It gave me a whole new perspective on the things I could create and the legacies I could leave behind for others to be in awe of," she said. "I felt strong. I felt rebellious. I felt self-determined and liberated and honest. And that's when I started to make the music."

"As I Am" features guest appearances by John Mayer and Floetry's Marcia Ambrosius.

Keys is to begin a tour to promote "As I Am" in February.
