NEW YORK, Oct. 31 (UPI) -- U.S. rock 'n' roll icon Elvis Presley has topped Forbes' seventh annual list of Top-Earning Dead Celebrities, the magazine reported.

The estate of the late recording artist and movie star earned $49 million in revenues during the past 12 months.

Kurt Cobain debuted at the top of the list last year after his widow, Courtney Love, sold part of his song catalog for a reported $50 million. However, the former Nirvana front man did not even make the roster this year.

The 13 deceased stars on the 2007 list earned an aggregate $232 million in the past 12 months, Forbes.com said.

The top earners are Presley; singer-songwriter John Lennon at No. 2; cartoonist Charles M. Schulz at No. 3; former Beatle George Harrison at No. 4; physicist Albert Einstein at No. 5; artist Andy Warhol at No. 6; and children's author Theodor Geisel, otherwise known as Dr. Seuss, at No. 7.

They were followed by rapper Tupac Shakur at No. 8; actress Marilyn Monroe at No. 9; matinee idol Steve McQueen at No. 10; soul singer James Brown at No. 11; reggae star Bob Marley at No. 12 and screen icon James Dean at No. 13.
