LOS ANGELES, Sept. 16 (UPI) -- Katherine Heigl won the trophy for best supporting actress in a drama at the 59th annual Emmy Awards show in Los Angeles Sunday night.

The actress beat out her "Grey's Anatomy" co-stars Sandra Oh and Chandra Wilson, as well as "The Sopranos" stars Lorraine Bracco and Aida Turturro, for the honor.

This is the first Emmy for Heigl, who was also seen in this summer's blockbuster comedy, "Knocked Up."

"My own mother told me I didn't have a shot in hell of winning, so I don't have anything prepared," Heigl told the audience, adding with a laugh: "But she's a big supporter. She really does love me. ... This is my dream come true."
