Bollywood remakes 'Casablanca'

MUMBAI, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- Indian filmmaker Rajeev Nath has set out to create a modern day version of the classic film “Casablanca” using the current conflict in Sri Lanka.

Even though the backdrop of the film has been changed, fans will recognize the same story of a restaurateur who risks his life to help his former lover and her husband, The Independent reported Sunday.

The film, which begins production next month in Sri Lanka, will be shot entirely in Malayalam, and will use the long, bloody civil war between government forces and Tamil separatists as the conflict in the story, the British newspaper said.

The name of Nath’s tribute to “Casablanca,” “Ezham Mudra,” actually translates to “The Seventh Seal.”

"My film will be a tribute to the original," Nath, 55, said of the film scheduled to be completed in 2008.
