BLACKSBURG, Va., Aug. 1 (UPI) -- John Mayer and the Dave Matthews Band said they will perform at Virginia Tech next month to help the university begin the school year on a positive note.
On April 16, student Seung-Hui Cho went on a rampage on the campus in Blacksburg, killing 32 people and himself in the deadliest shooting in modern U.S. history.
Also scheduled to perform Sept. 6 are country artist Phil Vassar and rapper Nas, People reported Wednesday. The concert is free to current students, faculty and staff.
"We have a profound respect for the incredible resolve and unwavering sense of hope the university community has shown, and are honored to have the opportunity to share this evening with Virginia Tech," Carter Beauford, drummer for Dave Matthews Band, said in a statement.
