NEW YORK, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Comedian Whoopi Goldberg will be sitting at "The View" table in New York when the talk show begins its 11th season, ABC officials announced Wednesday.

Goldberg, who has been a guest host more than a dozen times, officially debuts Sept. 4, The Chicago Tribune reported. The Oscar winner replaces Rosie O'Donnell, whose contract wasn't renewed.

"I have known Whoopi for years," Barbara Walters, "The View" executive producer, said in a statement. "She is brilliant, funny and irrepressible and is an enormously popular and talented star. We are delighted that she is going to join the program as our moderator."

"It's a show I like with people I like and I'm looking forward to it," Goldberg said.

Eminem lawsuit raps Apple

DETROIT, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- The music publisher of Detroit rapper Eminem has sued Apple, charging the computer giant allowed unauthorized downloads of the rapper's songs.

In a complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Detroit, publisher Eight Mile Style, located in Ferndale, and Eminem's copyright manager, Martin Affiliated, said Apple allowed unauthorized downloads of Eminem's songs onto iPods, the Detroit News reported Tuesday.

Eight Mile Style and Martin Affiliated allege that although Apple pays a portion of revenues it collects from Eminem downloads to Universal Music Group, Eight Mile Style and Martin Affiliated never authorized Universal to allow the downloads.

"Eight Mile and Martin have demanded that Apple cease and desist its reproduction and distribution and Apple has refused," said the complaint filed Monday.

The multimillion-dollar lawsuit is the latest move by Eminem's publisher to protect the rights to his music.

Eight Mile Style and Martin sued Apple in 2004 over its use of "Lose Yourself" in a TV commercial for Apple's iTunes music store. That case was settled out of court.

Keith Richards to write autobiography

NEW YORK, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Keith Richards, the British guitarist who helped write such hits as "Jumpin' Jack Flash," will find out whether it's a gas, gas, gas writing about his life.

A book about the Rolling Stones guitarist will be published by Little, Brown & Company in the United States and Weidenfeld & Nicolson in Britain. Richards' recollections are scheduled to hit the shelves in the fall of 2010, The New York Times reported Wednesday.

Richards, 63, commands interest not only because he is a member of one of rock's iconic bands but also because of his on-the-edge lifestyle.

"This is the book that I've looked forward to publishing as long as I've had the idea of publishing anything," said Michael Pietsch, publisher of Little, Brown in New York. "His is one of the most vividly lived lives of our times, and he's a man who has always stood up and spoken with candor about things that most people guard carefully."

The publishers, both owned by Hachette Livre in France, bought worldwide English-language rights at auction. An anonymous source told the Times the houses paid $7.3 million for the memoir, which will be written with James Fox, author of "White Mischief."
