Merv Griffin hospitalized for cancer

LOS ANGELES, July 19 (UPI) -- Merv Griffin, creator of the popular game shows "Jeopardy!" and "Wheel of Fortune," has been hospitalized in Los Angeles for a recurrence of prostate cancer.

The cancer was found during a routine examination several weeks ago. A publicist for Griffin Wednesday told Entertainment Tonight the 82-year-old entertainer's "spirits are high."

"I'd rather play 'Jeopardy' than live it," Griffin said in a statement. "I was ready for a vacation; however this wasn't the destination I had in mind."
