Valenti memoirs to be published as planned

NEW YORK, April 30 (UPI) -- The memoirs of Jack Valenti, known to U.S. movie-goers as the man behind the movie ratings system, will be released June 5 as planned, his publisher said.

Harmony Books, a division of New York's Random House, said Valenti's autobiography, "This Time, This Place," will have a 100,000-copy first printing, Variety reported Monday.

The book will relate Valenti's career in both Hollywood and Washington through his long tenure as president of the Motion Picture Association of America. Harmony said extensive media plans had been made for New York, Los Angeles and Washington before Valenti's death on Thursday.

Valenti wrote five other books, including a non-fiction work about public speaking, but never a memoir.

"(Jack) was really excited about the book and he had worked really hard on it," said Harmony's Tina Constable. "We are sorry he didn't get to see enjoy the actual publication."
