Russell Brand honored by British TV awards

LONDON, March 24 (UPI) -- Flamboyant comedian Russell Brand was named the best non-acting British performer during the Broadcasting Press Guild's Television and Radio Awards.

The Independent said the 31-year-old was given the award for best non-acting performance for "Russell Brand's Got Issues," "The Russell Brand Show" and his efforts on other TV series.

The Broadcasting Press Guild again recognized Dame Helen Mirren with its best actress award for her role in "Prime Suspect: The Final Act."

"Longford" star Jim Broadbent meanwhile took home the best actor award for his role in the Channel 4 drama.

The BBC1's drama "Life on Mars" was recognized with the writer's award and was also named the year's best drama series.

The award event also featured "Planet Earth" being named best documentary/factual series.

The Independent said actress Anne Wood was recognized for her children's broadcasting efforts, while "Terry Pratchett's Hogfather" was named the top multi-channel program.
