Canadian rockers welcome new producer

CHICAGO, March 6 (UPI) -- Canadian rockers Tragically Hip were initially wary of choosing producer Bob Rock for their new album, "World Container."

With credits that include headbangers such as Metallica and Motley Crue, the quintet feared Rock would not be a good fit for their more textured and nuanced style. But bassist Gordon Sinclair says those concerns were put to rest during the first recording session in Vancouver.

"It was supposed to be a feel each other out session," Sinclair says, "and by the end of the first day, we were making the record. We're fairly protective of our creativity and songs and stuffs, but he got right in there and made good suggestions and clearly dug what we were doing.

"It was a very good working situation."

The Hip and Rock finished the group's 13th album during subsequent sessions in Toronto and Hawaii.

The group is currently touring to support "World Container."
