LOS ANGELES, Jan. 29 (UPI) -- Former actor Marcheline Bertrand, mother of Oscar-winner Angelina Jolie, died in Los Angeles hospital of cancer at the age of 56.
Jolie; her brother, actor-filmmaker James Haven; and Brad Pitt were with Bertrand when she died, Eonline.com said.
Bertrand studied under acting coach Lee Strasberg but put her career on hold following her 1971 marriage to actor Jon Voight. The couple had two children, Haven and Jolie, before an acrimonious split in 1976.
Bertrand had three credits listed in a movie database: minor roles in "The Man Who Loved Women" with Burt Reynolds and "Lookin' to Get Out," and an episode on the television drama "Ironsides."
Jolie indicated that a private funeral was being planned for her mother, who died Saturday.
