Spike Lee, NBC set for drama pilot

NEW YORK, Jan. 26 (UPI) -- Director Spike Lee has agreed to direct a New York-themed project for NBC, the network said.

The announcement comes after a previous Lee-NBC project about New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina fell through, Zap2it.com reported.

Lee will direct a drama pilot about an unlikely candidate who becomes the mayor of New York City. NBC announced last summer that it would work with Lee to develop a series, "NoLa," a drama about a cross-section of New Orleans residents putting their lives together following Katrina.

The mayor project, from the "Homicide" producing team of Tom Fontana and Barry Levinson, will be familiar ground for Lee. Most of his films have been set in New York.
