Script squabble stalls Carrey-Diaz film

HOLLYWOOD, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Production of the U.S. film "A Little Game Without Consequence" has stalled after the abrupt departure of the director and stars Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz.

Sources cited by The Hollywood Reporter Wednesday said the lead actors and director Gabriele Muccino were unhappy with the direction the script had taken.

The comedy-drama is based on a French play about a couple that fakes a breakup only to find out their friends hadn't thought it would last in the first place.

The Reporter said the stars were more interested in the darker aspects of the play while Focus Features was looking at a lighter, more commercial product.

Focus said this week it was recruiting new talent for the project.
