U.S.: Mexican band buses carrying cocaine

HIDALGO, Texas, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- U.S. customs agents were investigating hundreds of pounds of cocaine allegedly found on tour buses bringing two Mexican musical groups across the Texas border.

The tour buses crossed the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge about an hour apart Sunday afternoon, the McAllen (Texas) Monitor reported Tuesday. No arrests had yet been made.

More than 500 pounds, or 200 bricks, of cocaine allegedly was found in a hidden compartment on the bus belonging to Monterrey, Mexico, TV stars and Grammy nominees Los Payasonicos, the newspaper said.

Sources and three federal agents confirmed members of the popular children's group were on the bus and being questioned about the find.

The bus driver and co-driver were questioned Monday and released, the newspaper said.

Just short of an hour later Sunday, 600 pounds to 700 pounds of cocaine allegedly was found on a tour bus belonging to the Mexican group, Arnulfo Rey y As, officials said.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement was investigating both incidents as well as looking into any possible connection between the busts, the newspaper said.
