NASSAU, Bahamas, Sept. 18 (UPI) -- Noted pathologist Dr. Cyril Wecht said more lab tests are needed to determine why Anna Nicole Smith's son died in her Nassau, Bahamas, hospital room.
Wecht was hired by the former Playboy Playmate for a second opinion on what caused 20-year-old Daniel Smith's death Sept. 10, the New York Daily News said Monday. He completed an autopsy Sunday.
Smith died suddenly in his mother's hospital room at Doctors Hospital in Nassau three days after she gave birth to a baby girl.
Wecht, 75, of Pittsburgh, who has reviewed the high-profile deaths of Elvis Presley and President John F. Kennedy, said he sent toxicology, tissue and organ samples to a U.S. lab for examination, which could take weeks, the Daily News said. He said he found nothing to suggest "any kind of foul play" when he conducted his review at Princess Margaret Hospital, the newspaper said.
In other developments, TMZ.com said the toxicology report from Bahamian officials is due this week. The Web site said it learned that a definitive cause of death has been known for more than a week.
An inquest is scheduled to start Oct. 23, TZM.com said.
