Letterman may ink 4-year deal with CBS

NEW YORK, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- "The Late Night Show" host David Letterman reportedly is close to signing an agreement with CBS to continue the New York-based program until 2009-10.

Negotiations have gone on for months, but sources said the talks have been amicable, and there was no chance the late night host might leave the network, the Hollywood Reporter said.

CBS Chief Executive Officer Leslie Moonves is a frequent phone interviewee on the late show in "More with Les" segments. The relationship between Moonves and Letterman is more positive than it was four years ago when Letterman was approached to move over to ABC.

At that time, Letterman had a two-year contract with one-year renewals. Now, he is committing to a longer term.

Letterman is already one of TV's most highly paid personalities. His 2002 contract salary was approximately $31.5 million. Hollywood Reporter sources said the current salary agreement is in the same range, but that could not be confirmed.
