BATON ROUGE, La., July 7 (UPI) -- NBC will produce a live-action remake the animated cult classic "The Year Without a Santa Claus" as a TV movie starring John Goodman and filmed in Louisiana.
Goodman, who starred in "Monsters, Inc." and "Roseanne," will play Santa. Other cast members include Carol Kane as Mother Nature; Ethan Suplee and Eddie Griffin as elves named Jingle and Jangle; and "Saturday Night Live" alumnus Chris Kattan as the devious elf Sparky, zap2it reported.
The story revolves around a disillusioned Santa who thinks no one believes in him anymore and refuses to try to keep up with materialism at Christmastime. He decides he just won't do it this year.
Two of the most devoted elves head to South Town, USA, to find some true believers.
Ron Underwood ("City Slickers") will direct.
