Malkovich signs on for 'Mutant Chronicles'

NEW YORK, March 24 (UPI) -- John Malkovich was announced Friday as the headliner of Simon Hunter's sci-fi action thriller, "The Mutant Chronicles."

Malkovich will play Constantine, a 23rd century corporate overlord, opposite Thomas Jane in the film based on a popular role-playing board game, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Malkovich's character heads a United Nations-style council of corporate-run countries killing off Earth's natural resources. "NecroMutants" begin a war against humans for what little remains, and Constantine is tempted to evacuate some humans and destroy Earth rather than let the mutants take over -- all with the corporations' best interests in mind, The Reporter said.

Jane's character, Marine Major Mitch Hunter, leads the humans in their fight and becomes Constantine's enemy.
