JACKSONVILLE, Fla., March 10 (UPI) -- Lynyrd Skynyrd's upcoming induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is proof that good things do indeed come to those who wait.
The Southern rock band has been on the Hall of Fame ballot for several years before getting enough votes to be part of the class of 2006, which will be inducted Monday at New York City's Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. But guitarist Gary Rossington says he never lost faith.
"I live by the credo your time is your time," says Rossington, one of two original members left in the band. "I figured that when the time came it would be the right time. It's just a pleasure and honor to know that you did it good enough to be in the Hall of Fame."
Lynyrd Skynyrd will be inducted along with Black Sabbath, the Sex Pistols, Blondie, Miles Davis and A&M Records founders Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss. The ceremony will be taped and telecast March 21 by VH1.
