Cornell claims ex-wife was illegal manager

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell has lobbed another salvo at his former wife by claiming she was never licensed as the band's manager.

Cornell has filed a civil suit against Susan Silver in Los Angeles claiming she diverted his Soundgarden money to other band members while acting as the group's manager. He also claims she has been "holding hostage" his Grammy awards, demo tracks and other personal items.

Cornell has petitioned California's Division of Labor Standards Enforcement alleging his wife of 12 years was never licensed to manage Soundgarden and should therefore return the hundreds of thousands of dollars she made, TMZ.com reported Thursday.

Silver has previously called the civil suit "baseless and absurd" and could not be reached for comment on Cornell's latest action, TMZ said.
