Man donates 12,000 CDs to Texas school

AUSTIN, Texas, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- A former radio host is donating his 13,000 CDs to the library of Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas.

Stephen Aechternacht says offered his collection to Southern Methodist University in Dallas, but when officials there seemed overwhelmed by the gift, he decided to give them to Southwestern, the Austin (Texas) American-Statesman reported Thursday.

Aechternacht, 57, said most of the discs will be transferred to the university after he dies, but he's going through the massive collection to send over duplicates so students can start enjoying them right away.

Aechternacht said he adds about 600 CDs to his collection per year.

Two near-death experiences sparked him to map out a future home for the music, which he currently values around $150,000, he told the newspaper.
