Finalists lined up for Canada book prize

TORONTO, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Author Joan Barfoot's "Luck" was among the finalists revealed Wednesday for Canada's most prestigious book award.

Also nominated for the Scotiabank Giller Prize are David Bergen for "The Time in Between," Camilla Gibb for "Sweetness in the Belly," Lisa Moore for "Alligator" and Edeet Ravel for "A Wall of Light," the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

Businessman Jack Rabinovitch created the prize in 1994 to honor his late wife, literary journalist Doris Giller. Scotiabank signed on as a co-sponsor this year, doubling the prize money to $50,000.

Each of the four finalists receives $2,500 with $40,000 going to the winner. The prize will be presented Nov. 8 in Toronto.
