Lansbury to get knee replaced

LOS ANGELES, July 13 (UPI) -- British actress Angela Lansbury is scheduled to undergo knee replacement surgery in Los Angeles, her daughter told the BBC Wednesday.

The 79-year-old star of "Murder, She Wrote" and longtime beacon of Broadway has had the surgery scheduled for some time, Deirdre Battarra, 52, said.

"Her knee is so painful from years of dancing," the daughter explained.

Lansbury tripped over an electrical cord during last week's Los Angeles concert celebrating the 75th birthday of composer Steven Sondheim, but Battarra said the surgery and the fall were not related.

The star of the 1962 feature "The Manchurian Candidate" will next be seen in the British kid flick "Nancy McPhee" with Colin Firth and Emma Thompson.

Lansbury -- a four-time Tony winner, three-time Oscar nominee and 17-time Emmy nominee -- is expected to take off about two months to recover from the surgery.
