Brian Wilson gets sentimental about SMiLE

AUSTIN, Texas, May 24 (UPI) -- Making the documentary about his "SMiLE" album was no easy task for former Beach Boys leader Brian Wilson.

"It was an experience in sentimentality," says Wilson, who abandoned "SMiLE" in 1966 and decided to finish it last year. "I was interviewed for hours and hours. When they showed me, when I saw the documentary, I almost got tears 'cause it was so revealing, very revealing, about my life."

"Brian Wilson Presents SMiLE: The DVD" chronicles the disintegration of the original "SMiLE" sessions -- due to drug addiction and a lack of support from the other Beach Boys -- and its rebirth last year. Wilson won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental for the "SMiLE" track "Mrs. O'Leary's Cow."

Wilson and his band will be playing "SMiLE" on the road all summer. A European tour kicks off June 22 in London, while the North American swing begins Aug. 9 in Boston.
