LOS ANGELES, March 11 (UPI) -- Johnny Depp plans to make a movie about an Iraqi nuclear scientist who had a uranium enrichment device buried in his yard, Daily Variety said Friday.
Depp and Initial Entertainment Group have optioned "The Bomb in My Garden," by Iraq's top nuclear scientist Mahdi Obeidi and People magazine foreign correspondent Kurt Pitzer.
After former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein was captured in 2003, Obeidi tried to surrender to U.S. authorities -- along with his weapons secrets. In the book, Obeidi wrote the CIA and other authorities did not believe his story.
Pitzer devised a plan to get Obeidi and his family out of Iraq -- where they faced danger from insurgents who wanted to silence him. Eventually, Obeidi turned over his information -- including a revelation he had buried a uranium enrichment device in his yard.
