'Ong-Bak' star wants to carry on legacy

NEW YORK, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Up-and-coming Thai movie star Tony Jaa says he wants to present Muay Thai boxing the same way actor Bruce Lee presented kung fu -- through the art of film.

Jaa's "Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior" has led to comparisons with many Asian action heroes, but Jaa told ABC News he wants to carry on their legacy, not erase it.

"I feel very proud. But to be clear, I don't think I could ever replace Bruce Lee," Jaa said through an interpreter. "He's my inspiration. No matter if it's Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan or Jet Li, they are my inspirations. They are like masters to me."

Jaa, who gained attention with his stunt-double work in "Mortal Kombat," was wrapping a U.S. promotional tour, after which he is to resume filming on "Ong-Bak" sequel to "Tom Yum Goong."
