LOS ANGELES, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- Plans are under way in Hollywood to remake writer-director John Carpenter's 1980 horror-thriller "The Fog," The Hollywood Reporter said Thursday.
The paper said Revolution Studios is putting the project together, with Carpenter, Debra Hill and David Foster producing. Hill co-wrote the original with Carpenter -- who told The Reporter he will be returning to the director's chair for the remake.
"I have done it once, and I don't want to do it again," he said. "I did my 'Fog,' and now it's someone else's time."
The original starred Adrienne Barbeau, Jamie Lee Curtis and Janet Leigh in the story of a fishing town terrorized by a thick fog full of spirits intent on avenging their deaths in a 100-year-old shipwreck. Carpenter said he had been thinking of revisiting "The Fog," possibly for a sequel.
"But now is the season of the remake," he said.
Screenwriter Cooper Layne ("The Core," "The Emperor's Club") is writing the screenplay for the updated take on "The Fog."
