Jamie Foxx in TV deal with FX

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- Jamie Foxx and the FX cable channel are teaming for a sketch comedy series pilot, Daily Variety said Friday.

Foxx previously starred on FX in the TV movie "Redemption: The Stan Tookie Williams Story" -- playing the founder of the Crips L.A. street gang, who changed his life and became a writer of children's novels and an advocate for non-violent conflict resolution. Williams is still serving time on California's death row.

Foxx is also the subject of considerable Oscar-buzz for his performance as the legendary R&B singer Ray Charles in the upcoming feature film "Ray."

FX entertainment President John Landgraf said Foxx's brand of humor is a perfect fit with the cable channel's adult-oriented programming.

"There is a type of comedy that Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle and Jamie Foxx are all a part of that very much fits with what FX is doing," he said. "In the pursuit of comedy, these are people who aren't afraid to take risks and tell truths about uncomfortable things."
