BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Fans who want bleacher seats at the 77th Academy Awards may register online only this year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced.
Registration for bleacher seats at the red carpet began Monday at oscars.org/bleachers, and will end next Monday.
The academy said 300 bleacher seats will be available outside the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood for the Feb. 27, 2005, event. Online bleacher applicants can register one person or groups of up to four, but only one application form will be accepted per person or group.
Applicants whose entries are selected in a random drawing will then be required to submit information about themselves for security background checks.
The application process was instituted for the 74th Academy Awards in 2002, following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. The red carpet was canceled in 2003, when the United States was preparing to invade Iraq. Fans who had won bleacher seats that year were invited to view the red carpet arrivals last February at the 76th Academy Awards.
