Will Smith meets Nelson Mandela

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- Hollywood actor Will Smith met South Africa's Nelson Mandela in Johannesburg and agreed to be an ambassador for the 86-year-old leader's AIDS campaign.

Smith met Mandela this week while Smith was promoting his latest film, "I, Robot," in South Africa, the BBC reported Friday.

Smith said he would "humbly, gratefully and aggressively" answer Mandela's call to be an ambassador for the drive to fight AIDS.

Mandela said in a statement he was convinced the Men in Black star would help spread awareness of HIV/Aids to those most at risk.

"His ability to inspire us will encourage the world's young people to stay HIV negative in order to achieve more," he said.

Other celebrity supporters of the campaign include Bono, Peter Gabriel and Sir Bob Geldof.
