NEW YORK, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Country star Tim McGraw is considering a future in politics, Time magazine reports in this week's edition.

McGraw, 37, said he wants to represent Tennessee in the U.S. Senate.

"Not now, but when I'm 50, when music dies down a little bit," he said. "I know lots of artists and actors have those delusions of grandeur, but ever since I was a kid, it's been of interest to me."

The singer of such country hits as "Maybe We Should Sleep on It" and "Indian Outlaw" said he loves politics.

"I love Bill Clinton," he said. "I think we should make him king. I'm talking the red robe, the turkey leg -- everything."

However, he isn't about to talk about his politics during a concert. He said that one of the rules in country music is to keep your progressive politics to yourself.

"Onstage, I tell people to go vote," he says. "But what I vote for? Nobody cares. At least not right now."
