NEW YORK, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- U.S. actor Ron Livingston says he used what little time he has in the new romantic comedy "Little Black Book" to make his character likable.
Livingston portrays a secretive man whose girlfriend goes to great lengths to unearth his romantic past in the film starring Brittany Murphy, Kathy Bates, Holly Hunter and a parade of beautiful starlets playing his former girlfriends.
Although much of the film takes place behind his character's back, Livingston said he tried to make his character sympathetic, reasoning his attractive exes wouldn't have fallen in love with him, then wanted to remain friends with him after they broke up, if he was a "heel."
"The number one challenge was: 'I have to make this guy likable. ... There are going to be a lot of feminine points of view here, and I've got to (represent) the other side,' " he said. "It's like the Lincoln-Douglas Debate isn't famous if Douglas can't make a speech."
Asked what it was like to be one of the few men in the film, Livingston quipped, "It was like I was a lone skiff on a sea of estrogen, just trying to navigate the storm."
