Italian actress Laura Betti dies at age 70

ROME, July 31 (UPI) -- Italian actress Laura Betti, who worked with Italian directors as Pier Paolo Pasolini and Federico Fellini, has died in Rome at the age of 70.

The BBC reported Saturday that Betti's most memorable films were: Pasolini's "The Canterbury Tales," Fellini's "La Dolce Vita" as well as Bernardo Bertolucci's films "1900" and "Last Tango in Paris."

Betti, whose real surname was Trombetti, was born in Bologna, Italy, in 1934 and began her career as a jazz singer.

Her acting debut was in "La Dolce Vita" in 1960 and later worked with filmmakers Roberto Rossellini, Mario Bava and the Taviani brothers.

Betti made a documentary on the life of director Pasolini, with whom she made seven movies, in 2001 and donated his archive to Bologna's film library earlier this year.
